General FAQs

For more information on children’s lessons please see the Lessons for Kids FAQ.

Q: How much does a lesson cost?
A: Most of my students have half hour lessons, which cost £20. I charge a standard £40 per hour for tuition, so if you’d like longer lessons they’ll be charged at this rate.

Q: Do you offer taster lessons?

A: I offer an introductory 20-minute lesson for £10.

Q: Where are your lessons located?
A: I teach from a private room on the Clifton Triangle, visit my Studio Info page to see where I teach!

Q: Can I have lessons at home?
A: I offer 45-minute home lessons, but these are offered at my discretion, and are restricted to central Bristol.

Q: How often should I have lessons?
A: I recommend weekly lessons for beginners, in order to build up a regular habit of practise and improvement.

Q: What happens if I need to cancel my lesson?
A: I am flexible and able to re-arrange lesson times to suit you. Late-notice cancellations create problems for me, so if you cancel your lesson on the day you’ll still be liable for the cost of your lesson!

Q: When can I book a lesson?
A: I am available to teach during weekdays, weekends and evenings., during the holidays and on Bank Holidays. Please contact me for my availability!

Q: What should I bring to my lesson?
A: You will need your own instrument and any books or materials you are learning from – I provide amps, tuning and leads for you!

Q: What do your lessons consist of?

A: Every student is different and lessons content varies accordingly. For beginners, this usually consists of repertoire development based around popular music, with a focus on developing strong strumming and chord playing abilities – this means you’ll be learning to play along with famous songs from your very first lesson! I also teach Disney tunes and theme songs to my younger students so they’re involved and learning straight away!

Q: Can I book a group lesson?
A: You can split the cost of a lesson with a friend if you are both learning at similar levels, but I only offer 45 minute lessons for pairs of students.

Q: Can I book more than a half hour lesson?
A: Several of my students take 45-minute lessons which allows us to tackle more complex techniques in greater depth. This is recommended for older students, as younger ones may find it hard to concentrate for longer than half an hour.

Q: Can I study for a grade examination with you?
A: Yes, I have a 100% pass rate for my students through more than a dozen exams! I can help you study for RGT, Rock School and ABRSM exams on electric or acoustic guitar, and am happy to advise on the best course for you.
